I started photographing families in Austin immediately after opening Rising Oak Images about ten years ago! I've had a lot of experience with what works and doesn't work. I want your family session to be fun and carefree and I've found a lot of things over the years that make this process an easy one.

Don't worry whether your kids are looking and smiling at the camera! Honestly, the best photos come from candid moments and your kids will have the most genuine smiles while interacting with you. Play with them as you normally would and you will love the outcome!
If your kid is like every other kid, he or she might have a meltdown mid-shoot. This happens almost every time and there is no need to stress! Kids smile just as often as they cry, so we will get plenty of fun photos.
Bring water or juice and/or a snack for your kids! Texas is hot and these photo sessions can be 1.5-2 hours. Things will go more smoothly if they have snacks to keep them happy.
Stay away from outfits that are all black but feel free to be creative. Don't feel like you have to dress up! You are more than welcome to, but you can also be casual if that is what feels best for your family.

Two to three weeks after your session, you'll receive your images on an online gallery. From there you will be able to choose your gallery from the gallery store. I always send out a few sneak peek images within 1-2 days after our session, because I know how hard it can be to wait!

The beautiful glow that envelopes the subjects of the pictures and the surrounding landscape is positively transcendent. A lifestyle family photographer is one who focuses more on the essence and interactions within a family rather than creating posed shots. I want to see what makes your family unique, whether that be tickling your kids on the couch, playing baseball in the backyard, making cupcakes in the kitchen or snuggling on the bed. All of these things make beautiful photographs that take the pressure off of kids and you’ll be sure to get the most genuine smiles from them when hanging out with their parents.
I try to take one photo of my kids each day. I don’t overthink it and I grab my camera when I remember and photograph them doing whatever they are doing in that moment. Sometimes they are drawing on their easels, sometimes they are playing with their baby brother, and other times they are fighting in the kitchen. Whatever it may be, I always look back on those photos and laugh because it’s all of these moments that make them who they are.
