Pennybacker Bridge, also known as the 360 bridge, is an iconic bridge in downtown Austin. It is a spot that everyone seems to point to when they’re looking for a unique city area for their photo sessions.
Around the bridge, there are many different types of scenery that can be used for backgrounds. It has a great field of grass and even has a forest across the street. The grass under the bridge makes for a shady and inviting spot to take family pictures.
Across the street, you’ll find a more forest-like area. This is a great contrast to the grass that you will see by the bridge. You’ll see this in our first image, where the family is standing in front of the trees. To make for another amazing backdrop, the trees that lined the water in front of the bridge were starting to turn orange, giving us a really picturesque background to the family pictures.
The time of day that we took the pictures was right before the sun set. It was warm and sun-kissed outside, making this family session even more picture-perfect!
One thing you’ll notice in the pictures that we took at the Pennybacker Bridge is that some photos have the glowing sun behind them and others are more evenly toned, without the glow of the sun. Some pictures were taken under trees or in shady areas. These pictures don’t have that sunburst.
The sunburst photos were taken in direct evening sun, giving the photographs a warmer tint.
When thinking about what time of day you’d like to take your pictures, try and aim for that warm, before sunset, glowing hour. These will make your photographs warm like you see below. If you’re outside during the afternoon, such as at noon or 1 pm, the sun will be very harsh and not ideal for taking pictures. It is then that we utilize shade to get the nice even coloring you see below as well.
