Pedernales Falls in between Dripping Springs and Johnson City is one of my all time favorite locations for families and pregnant mamas! Nothing beats the unique landscape of rocks with pools of water and falls. The landscape is constantly changing throughout the year depending on the season, so it always looks unique each time I go out there. I loved these photos with Robin and Jackson since the leaves were just starting to change color and we got a stunning yellow color in the landscape mixed with the golden light of sunset!
The hike out to this location at Pedernales Falls State Park takes a while. I’ve had a lot of pregnant mamas hike out with me, and it definitely requires hiking shoes and drinking water! Since nobody really goes out there in the evening, it is easy to change shoes and clothes hiding behind rocks or even out in the open. I always tell people to bring a few outfit changes as well. It’s so fun to walk around and look for beautiful spots to take photos amongst the little pools of water. Certain times of year, there are even some pretty big falls that make for great photography backdrops!
I like to start taking Austin maternity photos about an hour before sunset. It gives time to get some sunnier photos as well as some photos with the deep golden light as the sun begins to set. The best part about being out in that location is staying until the sun is almost behind the horizon and getting some amazing wide landscape photos of families and couples with the stunning Austin sunsets in the background.
